Process and costs
How does treatment begin, how does it continue, and what do you pay yourself? Here you will find the path from the first appointment to the end of treatment, the costs and the rules of the CNS.
What psychotherapy is
Psychotherapy is a recognised form of treatment for people with psychological, psychosocial or psychosomatic problems. It helps you understand what weighs on you, change patterns of behaviour and find ways of coping with your own life again. In our practice it is led by a medical specialist and, where needed, combined with medical diagnosis and treatment.
Treatment in four steps
You can come to the first appointment without a referral. Treatment then follows in four steps:
- 1
First appointment
Together we clarify your concerns, expectations and goals and the framework of the treatment.
- 2
Trial sessions
In the first sessions we check whether working together is a good fit and complete the diagnostic assessment.
- 3
Therapeutic work
The actual treatment builds on this, drawing on your biography and your surroundings as needed.
- 4
Joint reflection
At the end of each phase we look back: what has been achieved, and what can be put into practice in everyday life?
50 minutes
A session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place weekly. How long treatment takes overall depends on your goals and the method.
Individual therapy
We treat in individual sessions.
Side effects and active participation
Any effective treatment can also have unwanted side effects. Symptoms may get worse for a while, relationships may change, doubts may arise. This is not a sign of failure but often part of real change.
If you feel that treatment is not going in the right direction, say so – in a conversation with us or, if necessary, through a second professional opinion. A sound therapeutic relationship can cope with that.
Psychotherapy does not only take place in the session. Exercises in everyday life, trying out new behaviour and reflecting between appointments are part of it. There will be phases when this is hard. That is precisely when it is worth keeping going.
Your rights and the legal framework
At any time, you have the right to
- ask questions about how treatment works,
- end treatment,
- change to a different therapist.
A final conversation makes sense in any case.
Psychotherapy takes place within a clear ethical and legal framework. At the start we agree a treatment contract, verbally or in writing, which sets out the approach, goals and costs transparently.
Costs and billing with the CNS
We bill consultations and psychotherapy directly to the CNS under the Paiement immédiat direct scheme. The CNS pays its share directly to the practice; you only pay your own share.

Cost coverage by the CNS

- SP01
Initial psychotherapy
up to 3 sessions to get started
- SP02
Supportive psychotherapy
up to 24 sessions within 5 years
- SP03
Extended supportive psychotherapy
up to 120 sessions within 10 years, with a new prescription every 24 sessions
Rates and terms may change. You can find up-to-date information directly from the CNS.
Billing in special cases
Insured through Médecins Sans Frontières or Croix-Rouge
Treatment is possible. As billing does not go through the CNS, please clarify cost coverage in advance with our secretariat.
Not insured with the CNS, for example German or Swiss health insurance
Treatment at the practice is possible on a private invoice, paid by card directly after the session, cashless. Cross-border workers who work in Luxembourg and are insured with the CNS are billed like everyone insured with the CNS.
Online consultation
We offer online video consultations outside opening hours. The CNS does not cover them; you pay for them privately. If you are insured in Germany or Switzerland, you can submit the invoice to your health insurer.
Cancelling appointments
If you cannot attend an appointment, please cancel it at least 48 hours in advance. In the event of late cancellation or non-attendance, we reserve the right to charge for the session.
Frequently asked questions about process and costs
How do I get an appointment?
You can arrange a first appointment online via Doctena, via our contact form or by email. If you are not sure whether your concern is right for our practice, please get in touch – we will clarify this together at the first appointment.
Does the CNS cover the costs?
88% of them: we bill consultations and psychotherapy directly to the CNS under the Paiement immédiat direct scheme. You pay your 12% share plus a €5 administration fee by card directly after the appointment. You do not need a referral.
How long is a session, and how often do sessions take place?
A session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place once a week. How long therapy takes overall depends on your individual needs and the chosen method – we will discuss this together.
