Diagnosis and treatment methods
A treatment is only as good as the diagnosis it is based on. That is why we take our time before we treat: for the conversation, for the examination and for the question of which method suits you.
Treatment approach: across methods
No single method suits everyone equally. That is why we work across methods and tailor treatment to your symptoms, your history and your goals. Depending on the condition, we use behavioural therapy methods, trauma-specific methods or device-based methods, often in combination.
The basis of every treatment is the therapeutic relationship. Without trust, no method works.
The first appointment
The first appointment lasts 50 minutes. A large part of it is given over to the medical history: previous illnesses, medication, risk factors in the family, physical findings, and your life situation. Only then do we come to your symptoms and your story.
The reason is simple: mental health problems are rarely purely psychological. What the body brings with it and how someone lives are part of the picture before a diagnosis is made. Looking at only one side means missing the other.
Differential diagnosis with medical history, tests and EEG
Many symptoms look similar at first glance, yet have different causes. Our diagnostic approach therefore goes beyond the conversation and combines clinical methods with neuropsychological and neurophysiological procedures, including device-based measurements. We only use device-based methods when there is a medical indication.
Medical history and biography
Biographical exploration, medical and trauma history
Neurophysiological and somatic diagnostics
EEG for neurological and psychiatric diagnosis · qEEG (quantitative EEG) for monitoring the effects of trauma and progress in therapy · PSST (peripheral somatic stress test)
Psychological tests
Psychometric and neuropsychological testing, intelligence testing (fluid intelligence), cognitive reaction and performance tests, somnographic exploration
Behavioural observation
Free and systematic observation, in the practice and on the basis of recordings
Further tests are added depending on the symptoms. The diagnostic process is tailored to you, not the other way round.
Treatment methods: cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma therapy, device-based methods
Three areas, one treatment plan. The diagnosis determines which method is used; often several are combined.
